The Hogs Breath is a 2 day, 100 mile sprint from Key Largo to Key West.
The first day competitors race approximately 50 miles to Marathon Key. The second day
competitors continue on another 50 miles to Key West. Elapsed times are recorded each day
and combined to produce a total elapsed race time. The first day was relatively slow
moving, but the second day brought new conditions and record elapsed times. Eric &
Bill Roberts on their
RC-30
set the lowest elapsed time for the second day at 2 hours, 19 minutes and 28 seconds,
maintaining an average speed of 21.5 MPH with peak speeds nearing 30 MPH over the 50 mile
course!
Mike Kelly, Lloyd Beery, and Tracy Oliver on their ARC-22's provided
strong competition for Team Roberts
RC-30 and the other competitors.
In fact close examination of the elapsed times will show that the
ARC-22's were in the top five finishers
both days of the race. It can also be noted that Team Roberts on their
RC-30 salvaged a 6th place finish the
first day with a record setting run the second day which provided them with the fastest
total elapsed time for both days.

The Miami-Key Largo is a 42 Mile distance race hosted annually by the Miami Yacht Club.
The 2000 race was host to 71 multihulls, of which 51 finished. Fifty-Eight of the
Seventy-One entrants were classified as beach cats. The wind was moderate and from a
direction that made the race a upwind battle the entire way. Because of the wind
direction, no one was able to fly spinnakers and no one was able to challenge the 11 year
old record of 1 hour 45 minutes set by Bill Roberts on his
RC-27 in 1989.
